Being Productive This New Year – 2019!

We are all busy.

Busy with work, life commitments, school, relationships, and more.

There may be a slight correlation between being busy and being productive but the two don’t mean the same thing.

Here are some signs that you’re too busy

  • You can’t remember the last time you took a day off
  • Those closest to you have stopped asking for your time
  • Meals and car rides are spent catching up on other tasks
  • Unable to control your emotions
  • You don’t know what to do when you have free time
  • Your daily planner is your best friend
  • You wake up tired; not getting enough sleep
  • Everything feels important
  • Your source of exercise is running to and from appointments
  • Lack of self-care
  • You can’t remember what it feels like to be ahead of schedule

As you likely know from personal experience, you can become so busy that you reach a tipping point. A point where you can no longer withstand the weight of your commitments. You feel so overwhelmed as if your life is falling apart.

Don’t let your busy schedules keep you from doing the things you want to do.

Instead of continuing in the cycle of being too busy, make a change.

Welcome the new year by being more productive.

Balance out your work life, so that other areas of your life balance too.

Teamwork

When you support the people around you, they often will support you. You don’t have to work alone.

Resourceful

Find a way to make the things that you do repetitively, easier. This can save you time and you’ll get more things done.

Urgency

Show respect to your current task. As more tasks arise, consider how long they would take. If it would take longer than 5 minutes, set it aside until you complete the task you are working on.

Phone Use

Staying informed shouldn’t require you to waste your time. Use distractions for good. Texts, calls, and notifications interfere with productivity.

An app called, Forest gamifies productivity. The longer you leave the app open, trees grow, allowing you to stay present. When you close the app to do something else, the tree dies. See how many trees you can grow without being distracted.

Choose the tasks that are most important to do today and focus on the other tasks tomorrow.

There are only so many hours in a day, use them wisely.
